Musicians from the international Vintskevich & Taylor Quartet and the Folk Choir Rostan have created a unique combination of authentic Russian folklore and jazz.

Choir Rostan carefully upholds traditions and opens up additional opportunities for passing them on to the younger generation.
The Rostan repertoire contains many songs from the village of Plyokhovo that is situated in the Kursk region. Folk of Plekhovo village The Southern Kursk region, where the Plekhovo village is situated, has a rich unique singing tradition.
Plekhovo village
The performing manner of Plekhovo is rich in improvisation and has a complicated polyphony as many songs have a whole-tone harmony. Plekhovo village and its neighborhood attracted the attention of folklorists in 1937 whilst searching for a rare folk musical instrument “Kubichek” — a kind ofRussian pan flute.
These places were already known for this instrument due to its mention in nineteenth century literature. Numerous expeditions devoted to the study of the folklore of this region still take place to this day.
Since then the musical folklore of the southern part of Kursk region, its instrumental music and choreography have become the subject of sustained study. Vintskevich-Taylor-Rostan Choir Vintskevich–Taylor–Rostan Venture is the creative venture of famous American and Russian musicians with a Folk Choir.
It was interesting for the Americans to participate in such aproject as in the USA where jazz music was born and is a kind of traditional the concept of “ethno-jazz” does not exist.
There is jazz in its natural form. They have never played this music synthesized with the folk culture of another country before. Therefore this kind of creative experiment was impossible to resist.
